Easyfind indexing7/27/2023 ![]() On final note, Spotlight is great but if you need something more specialized you can try EasyFind. Searches take some time to be presented, owing to the lack of indexing. No organization in the way results are presented.Capable to perform very in-depth searches.Previews files using Quick Look (Mac OS X 10.5 or later). ![]() It is a brilliant tool to search in areas that the spotlight couldn’t index inside package contents, invisible files and folders, specific/targeted folders, external hard disks ect. Extended Boolean operators, similar to DEVONthink and DEVONagent They don’t rely on the systems index method rather they search the files based on the file names, with the speed of light.Displays the location of each file in a separate column.Ability to locate invisible files and files inside packages.Immediate searches, requires no indexing.Phrases, Boolean operators and wildcards. You can also configure the file extensions you want EasyFind to search by selecting the preferences and a pop-out sidebar will allow you to define the extensions. A drop down lets you quickly switch between search locations. Is there anything else I need to do, or is this alright?Īnd if this is all the right thing to have done, does anyone have any idea how long it will take for the index to rebuild, and for Spotlight to again regain usefulness? This is a vital function. It comes handy in the case of some hidden files or corrupted indices that escape Spotlight’s view. I now have Macintosh HD and Spotless enabled, and Easy Find is read only. Spotless is unable to manage indexes on CD or DVD media." If you are able to do so, please unlock the volume and try again. On trying to enable it, it has now told me: "It is unable to write the index to the volume EasyFind because it is read only. I opened Easy Find, to see if it was enabled, and it was not. In Spotless my Macintosh HD was enabled, but the Volume Name for Spotless was not, and when I tried enabling this it came up with some sort of warning, but either way the indexing status in Spotless of both the Macintosh HD and Spotless is Enabled Mac HD is 4.4MB index size, Spotless is 4.0KB. After a couple of attempts to search for things (which is still fruitless), it is now 4.4mB. I’ve run Spotless over and over as it seems to have helped a few different people, but most recently after I ran it, the index size was still only 824kB. Make it hard to know whether I’m clicking on the right buttons. Scott Roberts wonderfully brief instructions regarding Spotless –ĭisable indexing, Delete all your indexes, and enable indexing. My question regarding Spotlight is this – it has the options for “disable indexing” or “disable spotlight indexing” and “delete index files” and delete entire index directory”. EasyFindcan only manage the same thing, and Path Finder – well it looks pretty fancy, but unless I am searching within the right subfolder, I can’t get it to find anything. I’ve tried Maintenance as well, and this and Spotless came up with the same result – can search for file names but not terms or words/phrases within files. The problem is that my Spotlight is seemingly kind of working again, but it can now only search for files/folder names, it can’t search for terms within the bulk of a file, deeming the function practically useless. ![]() I have tried searching the various help links, and have now tried Spotless, Maintenance 3.6, EasyFind and Path Finder. I have similarly been having problems with Spotlight, again probably only since updating with 10.4.8.
